The purpose of this organization is to create an open resource for all students and faculty at the University of Virginia who wish to participate in the recreational, educational, and philanthropic aspects of ceramics/pottery.
UVA mandates pre-requisite classes before allowing enrollment into a sculptures class, restricting many from exploring ceramics at UVA. Therefore, in 2010, a group of students developed the Ceramics Club to provide a creative outlet for students interested in ceramics. The club has welcomed hundreds of students, novice and expert, demonstrating the demand for such an outlet. Not only does the club allow students to practice ceramic art, but it connects them with the Charlottesville community.
UVA Clay Club partners with City Clay, a local studio in Charlottesville, to run wheel-throwing classes every semester. These classes at the City Clay studio have a class fee, however we do provide reimbursement. City Clay classes fill up quickly, so register as soon as you can. We also provide on-grounds opportunities to make free, handbuilt ceramic work in Ruffin Hall.
