What is Theater Tech?
This course is an interview and portfolio audition based. Technical theater encompasses all that goes into making a staged production. The areas of technical theater are directing, scenery, lighting, stage construction, stage marking, costuming, and sound development. These students will work very directly with students in drama to sketch, research and propose set designs, lighting suggestions and sound for the various productions. Era research and technique development is required. Careers in theater tech will be researched and field work as well as guest speakers will be included. All students will learn the various aspects of this course. This is an intensive theater program that includes production work, intensive course work, and workshops. Potential after school involvement is required during show lead up.
What types of positions are available?
Director - Directs the look, feel, movements of the show. Works closely with everyone.
Assistant Directors - works on lines, actor support and encouragement.
Line director works with all actors on line memory and ensures they are ready for LINEs per show
Lead Tech Director - design all lights and sounds and trains everyone.
Assistant Tech Director - supports above and can be independent and step in for anyone below.
Choreographers - designs all dance moves and works with actors teaching and breaking down every step.
Assistant choreographers supports all of the above and works with struggling actors.
Artistic Director designs the beauty and LOOK for the show.
Lead build specialist works with an entire team on the show - building every item needed
Personal Trainer - Designs workout plans for all actors ensuring health is the priority.
Sounds - cueing audio, mics, recordings, mixing tapes and audio, special effects sound...
Lighting - using lights to create the mood or scene.
Set Design - Artistic work and innovative options for various productions. Painting and creating scenes.
Prop Design and scene considerations
Cosmetology - Make up and hair - special effects, natural, management, instructions, etc.
Backstage Management - creating scene lists and managing movement and actors backstage.
Costume Design - working with actors and scripts to suggest and design incredible and innovative pieces.
Trench Manager and Assistant Trench Manager - this is the main prop closet and keeper of all things important.
Theater management - playbills, website, ticket sales, front of house theater management.
Yes - YOU HAVE to audition - BUT - it's DIFFERENT than Actor auditions.

Tech auditions are interview based.
