Parent notes
There are several ways parents can connect in VT Theater.
1) Our rehearsals are CLOSED. That means NO PARENTS ALLOWED....HOWEVER - we do not turn away volunteers who can sew, paint, build, work at shows, work at concessions, feed the kids, make props...lots of other ways to serve!
2) KNOW THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE and TIMES!
Know the rehearsal schedule
Make sure your student knows who is picking them up and they know everyone’s phone numbers by heart - not in their phones - phone batteries are not reliable.
3) Always check the parent remind!
We post LOTS of updates with needs or if we have something we need to sign up to serve or send items.
4) Be aware of the Probationary Period - Please note that ALL students are on a probationary period. If behaviors, attendance, or lack of commitment are displayed, you will be notified of a warning for your student, a final warning, and a dismissal from the program. This is for ALL students and is consistently applied.
5) Parents, train your students to be advocates - Train your students to talk with adult leaders and to send their emails to us with questions. All students receive communication via remind (so make sure their school email is also signed up) but we also send it via group emails - tell your child to check their email - this is a life skill - don't do it for them - do it with them until they are trained. If you ever see a "Family" meeting...that's our little "theater family".
*****If I ever need a parent/guardian meeting - I will specify but those are VERY few after the first initial meeting on August 12 6pm - 7pm in the Black Box. Please make sure you are on the parent/guardian remind. Please also ALWAYS check our website. This site will have calendar updates, music training for them to practice with and study, costuming details, choreography rehearsal videos to practice, show information, future show audition information, tech updates, and so so so much more. It's your one-stop shop and our students maintain the website - when I tell you these high school students are the most incredible communicators out there - I mean it! Exceptional.

6) Quick housekeeping tip - NO student is permitted to leave without checking out with a teacher ESPECIALLY on a show night or a rehearsal! It’s how we make sure ALL students are accounted for.
We also leave NO students behind, regardless of age 4 to 18 we wait.
They may not walk without you sending direct permission that they may do so - this is why honoring pick-up times is so very important.
We will do our BEST to make sure they are punctually released - some of them take longer to pack up and gather their things than others.
Parents MUST be on time for pick-ups. Anything later 5 minutes will be a conduct score (1 pt) against the student. Once the student reaches 3 pts they will be dismissed from the program. I would be devastated if any student were dismissed over something out of their control.
IF we can see that a rehearsal is going to run longer than the end time, we will send communication 30 minutes prior via REMIND.
7) PLEASE read the cast contract carefully!
8) LINES, DANCES, SONG - It's homework :-)
if your child has a role with lines or solos- help them memorize their lines - you will see "OFF BOOK" dates on the calendar - these are hard deadlines.
If your child is a triple threat and cast in ensemble - these roles MAKE VT theater outstanding - make sure you have ALL of the costume pieces asap - have them on VT music studying songs - have them on VT choreo reviewing the dances once they are recorded - have them practice expressive faces in the mirror lol!
9) We are on the hunt for a few donations - We will send out what we are looking for soon - hit those thirft stores!
10) We NEVER say the words “good luck” to our students before a show, a rehearsal - or EVER - NO MATTER WHAT!!! We keep the theater tradition ALIVE with “BREAK A LEG”. It’s an old story with two tales - one is if you “break a leg” then you are in a CAST….get it - like you made the Cast list…The other is you are wishing the opposite to happen - “Success in the performance”. It’s a love language for us so please keep the practice going.
Finally - THANK YOU for this time we have with your students. We believe in VT Theater and this is how we serve and give back to our community (both from the students to parents to teachers to volunteers).
VT Theater isn’t just about “school”, it’s about growth, service to others, bravery, love, and commitment.
It is an honor to be in your life and we can not wait to celebrate your exceptional talents.
Welcome to the LEGACY!
Let’s have fun and BREAK A LEG!
