ILEAMalta is providing vocational training to become a Logotherapist together with the Dutch Institute for Logotherapy and Existential Analytic psychotherapy (NILEA). Ten years ago we gave a strong impulse to achieve an international collaboration of various professional associations and institutes for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis: the Federation of Logotherapeutic Professionals in Europe.
From 2017, NILEA offers the training for Logotherapist based on this collaboration. The program is internationally standardized according to the criteria of the FLP-EU. Logotherapists can also obtain the European Certificate for Psychotherapy (ECP). NILEA is a recognized training institute for the ECP awarded by the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) in Vienna. Outside the joint curriculum, each country has its own specific needs. The Republic of Malta has it's Psychotherapy Act.
In the Logotherapist training, in the first phase you follow four clusters in which a combination of theoretical components, practical training and personal development are central. The clusters all have their own core theme. Its components are always taught in study units. A block consists of 8 half-days from Friday morning up to and including Sunday morning.
In the theoretical training, the historical background and content of Logotherapy are discussed.
The practical training takes shape because existential themes are addressed throughout the training. After the theory, these are integrated in group discussions within the coherent framework of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis.
As a student, you shape your personal development by participating in supervision and learning therapy, which are an integral part of the training.
Our study guide (studiegids)provides a detailed overview of the structure of the program and study load.
NILEA has a professional Digital Learning Environment (DLE) in which study material is offered, such as literature and visual material. Online meetings and lectures can also be followed in this secure learning environment.

NILEA provides a follow-up program for students that leads to registration with the ECP, the European certification for Logotherapy that allows you to work as a recognized and accredited Logotherapist throughout the EU. In our study guide you can read everything about this option and this study path.
During the training you will get to know our extensive team of teachers (team van docenten), who each have their own specific expertise and who are all firmly embedded in the knowledge and skills of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis.
"Frankl’s work is the most outstanding contribution to psychology in the last 50 years" (Carl Rogers)
The Institute gave me the opportunity to enroll at the beginning of Cluster 2 of the training. Conditions were attached to this. One of the conditions was attending 'Summerschool'. A weekly video call moment to discuss lessons, lectures and literature. In this way to discuss as much teaching material from Cluster 1 as possible and to get a feel for the ideas of Viktor Frankl. This regular contact made it easy for me to get into the rhythm of studying, despite my full-time job as a coach & consultant. The regular study ensures that within a relatively short time I am able to apply the knowledge of logotherapy and existential analysis in my daily work. It gives me a lot of energy and makes me enthusiastic. This has also been noticed by my clients and creates a win-win situation!

For years I have been considering taking up the logotherapy training... In my 1st year of theology study I read Frankl for the first time and now I am 62 years old I continue to read. After years of community work in old city districts, I have been working in nursing home care for 28 years, including with people with dementia. At the end of 2018 I wrote a book about "aging with the war"*. Now it is time for change, study and deepening, processing.
