Why do you want to become a Google Certified Innovator?
As a Google Certified Innovator, I want to be able to influence change within the education system and enthuse students to become digital thinkers and let them know that they all can learn and achieve. I want to share my passion for technology and innovation. I believe it can be used to accelerate learning for all students and help them all achieve beyond expected growth.
I want to change teachers’ mindsets to help them keep on top of technology. I want to be able to assist colleagues to develop an innovator's mindset and not be afraid to try new things. I am tired of hearing excuses about why they are not persevering with technology. Being mentored through the process, I feel, will help me to find solutions to empower my colleagues to enable us to share our ideas and accelerate our students.
Describe the challenge that you’re currently experiencing in education and why it matters.
Technology is constantly evolving and teachers are struggling. They are simply not persevering with technology as it changes. In the classroom, they attempt to use technology to make learning real. But are struggling with the application and relevance of the types of technology, for which purpose to use it and as such, it is not implemented within the curriculum effectively. In today’s world digital technologies should be as much a part of the learning journey as literacy and numeracy. As a school community, we are constantly discussing the need to extend high-potential students and raise the middle. Data collected shows that our high-potential students are not making expected growth whereas struggling students are achieving beyond. It matters because all students have the potential to achieve beyond expected growth and have the capacity to become design thinkers, but they need teachers to join them on this journey.
Throughout the Google Innovator academy in May 2019, I worked through the design thinking process to ideate my issue. This design board is the culmination of these efforts and helped me to focus on the part of my problem that would become my Innovator Project. The big yellow dot marks where Zyatica PD was born after imput from my fellow #SYD19 Innovators.

Choose your Own Technology PD Adventure
A brief description is:
To design tech PD for teachers to upskill in various technology tools. Teachers will self-identify and enter at their level of expertise and skill set level that they are comfortable with. After the PD teachers will be provided with check-ins to ensure they go on to implement the new learning in the curriculum ensuring all students benefit.
