Bio-Thermal Research Lab
Bio-Thermal Research Lab
Breaking the limits of time and distance - advancing the long-term preservation and global accessibility of living biological resources.
The Bio-Thermal Research Lab (BTR) investigates solutions to global challenges in the sustainability of living biological resources—including conserving biodiversity, enhancing food security, reducing reliance on animal models, and advancing human health.
We study the intersection of heat transfer and cryobiology to develop scalable cryopreservation strategies for cells, tissues, and whole organisms. Our mission is to advance biopreservation through thermal engineering, enabling long-term impact across medicine, ecology, aquaculture, and agriculture. We maintain active collaborations with researchers at USF, UCR, UMN, and industry partners to broaden the impact and translational potential of our research.
Multiple Positions Opening
Our group has two Ph.D. positions in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
Please contact zongqiguo@usf.edu for more information and possible financial support.
We also have research opportunities for undergraduate students and master students.
August 2, 2025
We are delighted to host Sangmo Liu from the University of California, Riverside (Dr. Yadong Yin's group), for a two-week collaborative visit at USF, funded by ATP-Bio.
