As high schoolers, it’s important for systems and methods to be as efficient as possible. Our goal is to study, work, and learn while still maintaining healthy habits. Efficiency allows us to manage our time, leading to productivity, extra sleep and free time. Who doesn’t want free time? While this is often difficult, we hope some of our policies can help students become closer to reaching that goal.
Policies that involve EFFICIENCY:
Grace Periods
⏱ Our bell schedule consists of 41 minute class periods and 3 minutes in between each period (unless it’s a conference day). Classes such as Mandarin and Art Appreciation take place on the tenth floor, and since schedules aren’t designed in regards to convenience, students may have to travel from the first floor to the tenth. The escalators and staircases are always extremely crowded and slow, preventing students from being able to arrive to class on time. However, students should not be penalized for such incidents that have them traveling up more than six floors. Our plan to resolve such an issue would be to talk to teachers who have rooms on the tenth floor and have them give their students 5 minute grace periods to arrive to class. This way, students won’t be penalized for something they cannot control.
Escalators
🏃♀️It is common knowledge at Stuyvesant that the escalators often break down. With our heavy backpacks, it can be quite exhausting to climb these essential means of transportation. Recently, there have been times where the direction of the working down escalator was switched in order to keep them functional. We propose that this be made a real policy: when an escalator breaks down, the working one must always be going up. This ensures that no student has to struggle to reach class safely and efficiently.
Facebook Groups
📱As most students are aware of, Facebook is the mainstream source of information and communication for Stuyvesant’s group chats and extracurricular activities. However, thousands of students post questions on Facebook, and it may be a challenge to scroll through hundreds of them to find one post that mentioned group chats being made for classes of specific teachers or tryouts for a sport. To be efficient and organized, we would gather all of these posts into one place on our website, so it’s easily accessible to all students. CLICK HERE TO CHECK THIS OUT!!!!
