What genres do you work with?
I specialize in fiction (generally fantasy, sci-fi, and romance) but I am happy to take on other subgenres of fiction as well as other genres.
However, I don't accept horror, and I don't accept manuscripts glorifying discrimination and prejudice as well as animal cruelty/death.
Do you offer sample critiques?
Yes! I offer them to clients who are booking a manuscript. It is a 1000-word sample edit, and depending on what service you are scheduling, I will request the sample to come from the middle of your manuscript. It is highly important that you are comfortable with my editing style before proceeding with booking.
What software do you use?
I primarily use Microsoft Word with the use of Track Changes. I do not work on any other document formats that Word will not accept. That means I only accept .doc or .docx files. I do ask that your MS is formatted in Times New Roman, Size 12; double-spaced.
However, if you prefer it, I am also equipped to work on PDF formats using Adobe (commenting and markup tools) upon request. Please note that I only use Adobe for developmental edits or critique assessments—if requested. I do not accept PDFs for copyediting, line editing, or proofreading, as those are sentence-level passes and require Track Changes.
When will I get my manuscript back?
It depends on various factors. You will receive an exact time frame in your proposal and contract.
How does payment work?
All projects under $200 must be paid in full to secure booking. Projects with multiple passes require payment installments, keeping you updated as I progress. Smaller projects require up to 50% upon scheduling and the remainder on completion of your project. Each service page has the payment layout noted.
Do you have payment plans?
Yes, I do offer payment plans. I know money can be tight, but you don't want to skip out on a crucial part of your project due to personal finances. I am more than happy to work within your budget.
What is your cancellation policy?
Every project involves dedicated time, scheduling, and personalized editorial work.
With that said, clients may cancel a booking before editing work begins for a full refund of any payment made. However, once editing work has commenced, refunds are not available for time spent on the manuscript. If a project is cancelled part way through, Zisk Editing may issue a partial refund at its discretion based on the amount of work completed.
If unexpected circumstance result in significant delays ofrom the editor's side, clients will be informed as soon as possible, and where appropriate, alternative arrangments or partial refunds may be discussed.
Do you offer discounts?
I do! Coming from a military family, I proudly offer a 10% discount to all Active Duty military and their dependents as well as veterans. I also offer 10% off to returning clients, and 10% for referrals (for both parties!).
