APAJPS50 Embracing Diversity in Pancreatology

Goals: To discuss and highlight challenges faced by underrepresented groups in particularly women in pancreatology. Researchers of diverse backgrounds will lead discussions that will focus on work related issues that women face in the workforce and will aim at providing recommendations for change.

7:00 am - 7:10 am Welcome remarks and introduction

7:10 am - 7:40 am Discussion of questions and development of recommendation points

(Tables can choose from one (or more if time allows) of the questions below or discuss others that they seem are relevant as well.

1. Why is diversity important? And why it is a current challenge to implement the growth of diversity at many places? Propose some solutions to break those barriers.

2. What key strategies can support the recruitment of women and/or more diverse faculty at academic centers?

3. What key ideas do you have to increase representation of women and/or more diverse faculty in senior leadership positions?

4. What key negotiating points would you provide to women and/or more diverse faculty that will assist them in their career growth?

5. What key tips to academic success would you provide to women and/or more diverse faculty that will assist them in a successful career?

6. Identify key barriers to the success of woman scientists. For each key barrier propose some solutions that will help break the barriers that you could take as suggestions to the leaders at your institutions.

7:40 am - 8:00 am Key recommendations based on discussions and take home messages.
