My pal Pixie is an events organiser and has a proven track record for creating colourful fun nights out for cool Londoners looking for something a little different.
When she found a tiny unit for rent in a converted indoor market near to popular local venues, she quickly set up shop and made it her own. Pixie's Bar is a retro 80s venue with neon and cocktails, attracting a diverse mix of people.
However, space is limited and it's a little off the beaten track. How do you persuade people to hunt for something "compact and bijou"?
... by turning apparent disadvantages into selling points, of course.
FLIP IT!
The heading invites people to uncover something hidden, like secret treasure or a mystery to be solved. Don't just follow the herd, go off on a tangent and see what else is out there. Now you have the warm buzz associated with an exciting new discovery, one which not a lot of people know about. You are part of an exclusive elite.
Every word tells a story. It is so true. I told her, never use the word 'small' to describe this place.
'Small' has negative emotional associations: inadequate, disappointing, not enough.
'Little' is very different: cute, adorable, attractive.
The intimate setting makes a welcome change from the main, often crowded watering holes, where you cannot always have a conversation because of the crush and the noise. Here you can relax with friendly staff and patrons.
In keeping with the neon theme, I used a black background to accentuate the bright pink and blue text, and gave the heading a fuzzy glow. Glam with a touch of the exotic.
