Pam Harrison is the writer and 3D render artist of science fiction saga A Deviant Mind.
I created this "print ad" - the traditional format, to be published in a magazine - but it can easily be adapted to a website/internet advertisement format.
It starts with a headline crafted to catch the reader's attention and create curiosity. People see a lot of content so it needs to be unusual in some way to make them stop and think.
Hmm, what does that mean?
Framing it as a question adds an extra hook. Questions are like an itch that your mind HAS to scratch.
The first paragraph teases the underlying mystery of the first issue. More questions are raised that can only be answered by continuing to read... Soon the reader is pulled in and has reached the end of the page without realising.
All the information they need to continue their journey is laid out at the bottom: where to read the first issue free, where to buy the following issues and how much, what formats are available ... anticipating all the questions they may have about the series and providing the answers clearly and conveniently.
Customers appreciate it when you make life easy for them!
