Learning more about the community and the specific needs that the community has
This fits into my career journey; I want to be able to make a big impact in my community, learning about community specific needs is the first step towards that.
In order to reach this goal, I also will volunteer at the Indiana Diaper Bank and Crooked Creek Food Pantry. The surveys that I have been doing for diaper need, and food insecurity have been very helpful in giving me a glimpse of what the community needs.
Learning to work with a team
This helps me prepare for the future; teams work better to find collaborative solutions. Learning to work within a team will also foster personal growth, and make me a better collaborative.
To reach this goal, I've been attending weekly meetings with the team in order to gauge progress and learn of new updates. I've also attended weekly SACCI meetings to learn more about how social determinants of health is approached by healthcare.
Better time management skills
This helps me personally because it will help me accomplish my goals, lower stress, and allow me to better prioritize the things in life that are important to me.
To meet this goal, I've been consistently sticking to a schedule and balanced my internship as well as school. Currently, we're working more on the diaper need surveys to get the project to a good, established point, but later in the year, I will work more on the food pantry surveys.
My current goal is to go to graduate school in clinical psychology and work with kids who have ADHD. While this isn't specifically related to that goal, it has taught me how much environment and resources affect people's ability to live their lives. I’m pretty passionate about this option, I want to do this work. This year I will keep doing what I’m doing as well as shadow some psychologists in order to learn more about their work and day to day schedule.
I’m confident in my teamwork and communication. I always do my best to be a team player and help everyone. I know I’m growing because whenever a new development comes that I feel is important, I update my team.
I would like to continue working on my confronting challenges. In my internship, there is a language barrier and that sometimes make it harder. However, one thing is that usually the other intern work and I together so that we can help the patients.
This internship has made me learn a lot more about how clinics operate and how public health initiatives in a healthcare system operates. I’m excited for the next chapter and looking forward to the future in the work that we do.
