奥田覚 准教授（金沢大学・ナノ生命科学研究所）との共同研究を通じて，細胞集団が立体面上で引き起こす変形挙動を記述するための新しい粒子ベース力学モデルを作成しました．様々な形状のマイクロ構造体上で培養された血管平滑筋細胞は，力学モデルに基づくシミュレーションと同様の変形・剥離挙動を示しました．さらに，シミュレーションの結果を詳細に解析することで，細胞シートの剥がれ現象が、応力集中・破断・大変形の連鎖により引き起こされることを明らかにしました．
In collaboration with Okuda’s group at Nano LSI at Kanazawa University, Yamashita’s group developed a new particle-based model; this model describes the deformation dynamics of cells adhering on structured substrates. Vascular smooth muscle cells cultured on micro-structured substrates showed the identical morphology as numerically simulated based on the proposed model. Numerical analysis further clarified the key mechanism of cell-sheet detachment; this is progressively driven by chain cycle of stress concentration at cell-substrate interface, rupture of cell-substrate adhesion and large deformation of the microtissue body.

太田裕治 教授 (お茶の水女子大学・精密機械工学) との共同研究により，柔らかくて脆いゲルの微小な接着力を定量的に評価できる独自装置の開発を行いました．また，秋元の研究グループで独自に確立した表面グラフト手法を活用して温度応答性高分子が表面修飾されたハイドロゲル (SGゲル)を設計し，このゲルが25 °Cと50 °Cに温度制御したベークライト板に対して温度依存的に異なる接着力を示すことを明らかにしました．
In collaboration with Prof. Yuji Ohta (Ochanomizu University, Precision Mechanical Engineering), we have developed an original device to quantitatively evaluate the adhesive strength of soft and brittle gels. We have also designed hydrogels with surface-grafted temperature-responsive polymers (SG gel) by utilizing the surface grafting technique established by Akimoto's research group, and have revealed that these gels exhibit temperature-dependent different adhesive strength to Bakelite plates at controlled temperatures of 25 °C and 50 °C.

表面開始リビングラジカル重合を用いてハイドロゲル表面上に含フッ素ポリマーの局所的修飾を施し，ナノ相分離構造を構築しました．この処理により，透明性を維持しながら撥水性と高弾性の性質をゲルに付与することができました．研究会内での共同研究により，ポリマー修飾深さ（共焦点ラマン分光法），ナノ相分離構造（高速原子間力顕微鏡（AFM））の評価を行いました．
A hydrogel surface with a nano-phase-separated structure was successfully fabricated by grafting a fluorine-containing polymer using activators regenerated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerisation (ARGET ATRP). The modified hydrogel surface exhibits water repellency and high elasticity with maintaining transparency.

新しい濡れ性試験法（AILE法）によって，医用材料のコーティング剤として利用されているリン脂質模倣ポリマー（MPCポリマー）の乾燥状態から湿潤状態への変化を解析し，疎水基と膨潤挙動との相関を明らかにしました．
Using a new wettability evaluation method (AILE method), we analyzed the change from dry to wet state of phospholipid mimetic polymer (MPC polymer), which is used as a coating material for medical materials, and clarified the correlation between hydrophobic groups and swelling behavior.
