In 1980, Proficiency Badges were introduced. The Best Unit Cadet Badge was first awarded in 1981.
In 1982, NUS NPCC was the first University Open Unit to start. Open Units brought a new generation of undergraduates who came on board to serve as Honorary Officers.
The NPCC Pledge was conceived in 1983 – 1984 and it was to be recited with pride on special occasions, such as the Sec 1 Swearing-In, Investitures and the NPCC Annual Parades.
The first Campcraft Competition was held in 1985.
In 1987, Kampong Bahru at Pulau Ubin was officially opened. The campsite provided an ideal location to conduct in-service training and team-building activities.
