The YRL School Resource Repository was created for YRL school member libraries to access resources for programming, acquisitions, collection development, weeding and inventory, curriculum support, kits, training, and professional development. You can find the resources, videos, guidelines, and information we've curated for you and your school library or library learning commons.
Please read our Helping Students Succeed pamphlet, which provides a brief overview of how YRL supports school libraries!
YRL offers support and services for your school library acquisitions and ordering needs. There are significant benefits to ordering library materials (books, audiobooks, DVDs, Blu-rays, music CDs, etc.) through YRL, including substantial discounts, high-quality materials, and access to a broad, current, and diverse selection. After an order is placed, the materials are shipped to YRL HQ for processing (cataloging, spine labels, Mylar covers, etc.). Once processing is complete, we will deliver the shelf-ready materials and MARC records to your ILS.
In the Programming Kits section, you will find information on the kits YRL has to borrow, how to use them in your programming, and additional resources and instructions, such as kit booking procedures. Please browse through the selection to find the perfect kit or kits to borrow for your library, library learning commons, and classroom programming.
YRL offers curriculum support to supplement your library's collection. If you or any of the teaching staff require books or library materials (DVDs, Blu-ray discs, audiobooks, music CDs, etc.) for upcoming learning units or projects within the curriculum, we can help.
Want to learn more? We offer in-person and virtual onboarding, live and recorded webinars, and more. Additional training and events are available throughout the year. Notifications of upcoming events, training, and workshops are shared in YRL Weekly and on the YRL website in the Events calendar.
TRAC offers a wide variety of eResources available to school member libraries, school staff, and students, all accessible with a TRAC library card. Go to your public library website and log in! There, you'll find a wide variety of eResources to support the learning needs of students, others to support and enhance a love of reading, some purely for interest and fun, and others for people of any age with a reading disability or language learning endeavours.
In 2022, YRL produced a binder for every school member library, a tangible reminder and a resource to have at your fingertips. It is a guide introducing you to YRLs most frequently accessed school services that will help optimize your library while saving your school time and money. We provide annual updates for your binder, and all resources found in the binder can also be found here. The yearly updates will help you stay on top of the newest services YRL has to offer.
Anything and everything you need to know about YRL is right at your fingertips, including booklists that may be of interest, such as our Professional Development Collection, and seasonal lists connected to the TD Summer Reading Club, YRCA and more. You can also access our Events/Workshops calendar to view available training and register.
The YRL YouTube Channel offers a range of recorded training sessions. The recordings of those sessions are uploaded to the channel so our member libraries can watch them at their convenience.
We love hearing about and seeing what our member libraries are doing! We share our member library posts to get the word out, so check out our Facebook page today to see what other libraries in the province are up to and spread the word!
YRL produces a newsletter with all the information you need from YRL and Alberta. It is delivered directly to your email inbox every Wednesday morning, so if you're not already a subscriber, click on the blue button below to sign up today!
