YANKEE POINT YACHT CLUB
Classes and conversation of interest to boaters, sailors, and local residents of the Northern Neck
We get fantastic coverage and a wonderful portrayal of our life on this little peninsula in due to the efforts of Ellen Dugan. Ellen is a marvelous story teller as those of us quoted in her writing will attest. We read with eagerness to see what we might have said and what we might have missed. Ellen is important to the Rappahannock Record as well. Hers is some of the best writing they print. So much so that she is often awarded her own byline.
We know that Ellen is a terrific writer, but did you know she is a poet as well. Come for pot luck Wednesday, August 6, for readings from her collection. Be warned that these will not be smarmy doggerel. You will meet charming characters, some crazy situations, and sweet emotions. Its wonderful, fun stuff.
Wednesday, August 6. At the clubhouse. Gather 5:30, eat 6, program 6:30 or so.
Our good friend Fran will talk with us about his early life in Holland and in the US military.
Few of us have experienced war the way Franz has – through Nazi occupation, through Dutch rebuilding and then a military career with airborne units. All this while being true to a religious calling. Take the opportunity to know Franz better and learn more of his extraordinary journey.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a course leading to a Virginia Boaters Certificate at the club March 29. Information to be coming soon.
We'll again offer our informal learn-to-sail classes this spring. There will be several ground school sessions, but most of the learning will take place on the water. Let's review the format and pick some dates.
For those interested in sailing camp, Rappahannock River Yacht Club has invited us to participate in their program for juniors. More details will follow.
