Professor Fine is not accepting applications for graduate students for fall 2026.
There are tons of opportunities! Please reach out to Dr. Fine with your CV, unofficial transcript, and a brief explanation of your general interests. Here are a few projects where we're actively seeking research assistants:
1. Understanding Futures: Youth Growth and AI in Detention - Justin Richardson (Graduate Student Project Lead)
How do justice-impacted youth choose the areas of life they want to grow in? What do they think about AI? I’m seeking two undergraduate research assistants to join me in conducting small-group interviews inside detention, exploring youth perspectives firsthand. The RAs will also help with transcription and have opportunities to contribute to presentations and publications.
2. Youth Hope Project - Trevor Morris (Graduate Student Project Lead)
Why do youth in juvenile detention still have hope—and where does it come from? I’m seeking two undergraduate research assistants to thematically code over 100 powerful youth narratives from detention. RAs will also have the opportunity to contribute to conference presentations and journal articles, with the opportunity for co-authorship.
3. Project SAFE Evaluation: Post-Program Interviews - Sasha Kuhl (Graduate Student Project Lead)
I'm seeking two undergraduate research assistants to conduct Zoom interviews with youth and parents who are participating in Project SAFE, a youth gun safety program. RAs will also assist with scheduling participants and ensuring accurate transcription records. This is a great opportunity to build interviewing skills and gain experience working directly with research participants.
