Our team was interested in the impact that daily disturbances and stress have on teens' mental health. While conducting our research, we noticed a focus on "bigger", long-term mental illnesses and an overlooked mindset regarding "smaller" daily setbacks.
A big risk factor of daily disturbances is the fact that they are not as emphasized, which can lead to teens not receiving the recognition needed to ask for help, and therefore, not getting the help they need. The high school environment further undermines their impact on mental health by classifying these signs and symptoms as normal experiences of high school.Â
We have centered our social media campaign around daily reminders of simple, yet often forgotten strategies to maintain mental health. These range from getting quality sleep to taking a mindful breath. Our campaign strives to highlight these overlooked, but essential aspects of well-being that can have a profound impact on daily mental health. Our goal is to inspire small, manageable changes that can lead to lasting improvements in overall life.
Daily stressors are a natural part of life, but there are simple ways to manage them. Taking a few moments to practice mindful breathing can help calm the mind and reset your focus when things feel overwhelming. Regular breaks throughout the day are also important, as they give you a chance to recharge and avoid burnout. Getting some physical activity, even if it's just a short walk, can release tension and improve your mood. Talking things through with someone you trust can provide perspective and emotional support. By making these small changes part of your routine, you can better cope with stress and maintain balance
