The Story of Arthur and Guinevere

Aubryelle: Welcome back! Last week we revealed the heart-wrenching secret of the growing love affair between Guinevere and Sir Lancelot. This week, we have decided to zoom in on the details of the early love life of Guinevere and King Arthur to see if we can find any hints that has led to the heartbreak that has come before the couple today. What better way to hear the version of the story than from the source themselves? First up is a one-on-one interview with the one and only King Arthur.

Aubryelle: Say hello, King!

King Arthur: Hello listeners, it nice to be here today.

Aubryelle: Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to try and clear up some of the confusion and rumors on the recent scandal at court. So, King Arthur, can you tell us the about the first time you saw Guinevere?

King Arthur: It was shortly after the War of Eleven Kings, and I had just rescued King Leodegrance of Cameliard. I was visiting his court when I laid eyes on the most beautiful soul. She had long, curly auburn hair, and the bluest eyes I had ever seen. I was instantly smitten and knew I must make her my wife.

Aubryelle: So, you are confirming that it was love at first sight?

King Arthur: Indeed. The moment our eyes met, I felt an instant connection as if I had known her my whole life. She has and always will hold my heart in her hands.

Aubryelle: How romantic! What more could a girl want than to be someone’s world! After you saw Guinevere in court, what did you do?

King Arthur: I met with a Wise Man and told him of people constantly trying to get me to marry. As a hopeless romantic, I knew I had to wait until I found the one, and on that very day I did. It was at that time that I was informed of Guinevere's identity.

Aubryelle: What did you Wiseman advise you to do?

King Arthur: My Wiseman has always been leery of Guinevere, as he said she would bring chaos and destruction to my court. It did not matter though. I knew that she was the one. After he advised me, I went to King Leodegrance and requested his daughter's hand. Not only did he give me the love of my life, but he gave me his round table with one hundred knights to fill it.

Aubryelle: What an inspiring story! Thank you for your time, King Arthur.

King Arthur: You are welcome. Bye!

Aubryelle: Next, let’s bring in Guinevere!

Aubryelle: Hello Guinevere! How are you?

Guinevere: I am great! It is so nice to be here today.

Aubryelle: Thank you for coming today! So, with the recent reveal of your new, blossoming relationship with Sir Lancelot, how are things at court?

Guinevere: They are a lot better than what I expected. I love Arthur, but the heart wants what it wants, and mine wants Sir Lancelot.

Aubryelle: Well, that is very blunt, but indeed it is true. There is no denying the heart its desires. Would you say that you still have feelings for King Arthur?

Guinevere: Of course, Arthur and I will always have that connection since we are married, although it is a bit awkward since my announcement. Surprisingly, he seems to be taking it very well.

Aubryelle: Well, he does love you and that is for certain. Would you mind telling us about the first time you met King Arthur?

Guinevere: Absolutely! It was shortly after Arthur had rescued my father after the War of Eleven Kings. He was visiting us at court. I was standing across the throne room and I saw Arthur staring at me from the other side. To be honest, I was very creeped out by this. A man just sitting across the room staring at me! I tried to play it off as though I did not see him there. He stood there for the longest time, but finally left. I mean, Arthur is very attractive and of course, he was a king, so I was fancied by his attention, but, there was not an instant love attraction for me.

Aubryelle: Thank you for being so honest. So, you would not say that it was love at first sight?

Guinevere: Definitely not! It took me a while to develop an affection for Arthur. I did truly hope that one day he would be my true love, but that day has not come. Even a few years into our marriage, I was still unsure of my feelings.

Aubryelle: How did you meet Sir Lancelot?

Guinevere: As you know, Lancelot is a knight at the round table. The first time I saw him sitting at the table, I was instantly in love. I can honestly say that my love for Lancelot was love at first sight. Lancelot truly makes my heart sing and I know he is the one.

Aubryelle: I am happy to hear that. What is the future for you and King Arthur looking like at this point?

Guinevere: Honestly, this is all so new and at the time I am not sure. All I know if I love Lancelot, but I do not want to hurt Arthur.

Aubryelle: Unfortunately, that is all we have time for. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to talking again.

Guinevere: No problem! Bye everyone!

Aubryelle: Well, that’s it for this week, folks. We have learned a lot about the beginning of Arthur and Guinevere, and as you heard from the Queen herself, we do not know about the future of the King and Queen. When more information becomes available, you know where to hear it first! Thank you for tuning in and tune in next time for the latest from within Camelot.

Author's Note: I decided to keep the original story plot, and character, only adding the part about Guinevere's feelings. The original story never said anything about how Guinevere felt or even included Guinevere's perspective. I thought that making Guinevere tell a story about how she was not sure about Arthur may give a little explanation to why she is now in love with Lancelot. I really liked the idea of this being more of a love triangle, which I know it is in the original story, but adding Guinevere's uncertainty makes it seem like she in not confident in her love choices, making it even more of a triangle. I also felt that including Guinevere’s feelings about King Arthur and the marriage from the beginning would give a better insight to why things turned out the way they did. The story that Arthur told was the original story. The heading photo that I chose was of a depiction of King Arthur and Guinevere's wedding. I chose this photo because it goes well with the story that I am telling about the start of Arthur and Guinevere. I also included a photo of Guinevere, since she is the primary focus of the storybook. I also chose to continue my "reporting" storytelling. I liked the idea of interviewing the characters to find out their personal points of view of the story. I thought this would make the story more relatable and overall make the story more interesting and more attention-grabbing.
