Bessemer Converter Jobs

Bessemer Converter Blower -- oversees operation of a Bessemer converter, directs charging of molten pig iron in converter, starts blower and controls volume and pressure of air blast by regulating speed, determines rate of oxidization by watching flame from converter, pours molten steel into ladles, takes product to open hearth for removal of phosphorous.

Bessemer Regulator -- operates hydraulic levers to tilt Bessemer converter when receiving molten pig iron and scrap metal and pouring molten steel into ladles after process.

Bottom Maker -- to dismantle and rebuild bottoms for Bessemer converter vessels.

Cinder Loader -- direct crane in loading, unloading and crushing slag and miscellaneous materials, dumping blow cinder boxes into cars for removal to blast furnaces, loading, unloading and stocking banked ingots.

Cinderman -- to clean slag and spillage from vessel pit, and to control movement of cinder car.

Craneman -- to operate a crane for the crushing, loading of slag, and handling of scrap , refuse and new material

Ladle Liner -- directs and assists in the patching of steel ladles and the lining of iron and steel ladles, cools interior of ladle with water hose, places coke gas burners in ladle to dry refractory materials.

Manganese Wheeler -- crush manganese to proper size for charging, delivers manganese to charging floor.

Refractory Mixer -- to supervise and assist in the preparation and delivery of refractory materials for use in bottoms, vessels, ladles, runner, and hot metal mixers.

Scrap charger -- to charge scrap and pig iron to vessels as directed by supervisor

Stopper Maker -- to dismantle and reassemble stoppers for use in Bessemer steel ladles.

Scrap Wheeler -- wheels scrap from scrap yard to scrap charging floor, instructs craneman as to type of scrap or pig iron desired for each charge as directed.

Test Catcher -- to take steel test on every heat, to assist pouring crew in general duties, pours test into test molds, removes test from test mold, carries test to quenching tank, quenches test in water and sets aside for delivery to chemical laboratory.

Vesselman -- to direct and assist in the maintenance of Bessemer converter vessels, removes accumulations of iron and slag from shell and lip of vessel as required.
