James Mackey Map 1899-2022: Past, Present and Future of the Downtown Youngstown Brown-Bonnell District

Welcome to our virtual exhibit!

History

In 1899 James Mackey, son of one of the earliest European pioneers, and a surveyor drew a map to document the parcels being sold from Brown Bonnell Iron Works to Republic Iron & Steel.

More than a mere industrial site, the scope and story of the area includes residential and transportation networks, such as the P&O canal, that put Youngstown on the map. In this exhibit, the past (transportation, industrial, and residential history), present, and future of the Brown Bonnell/ Republic Steel District is traced.
