Protective factors are characteristics associated with a lower likelihood of negative outcomes or that reduce a risk factor’s impact. Protective factors may be seen as positive countering events.
The mental health risk factor we chose for our project is anxiety. Anxiety is an emotion expressed by feelings of tension and worried thoughts. Symptoms of anxiety include restlessness, tiredness, trouble concentrating, and irritability. When exposed to stressful environments or situations, it can cause panic attacks as well. The prevalence of anxiety, particularly among the youth, has reached alarming levels. Its far-reaching consequences can lead to the potential development of various disorders and phobias.
Self-care is the empowering practice of individuals taking charge of their well-being by using knowledge and information available to them. It's a proactive decision-making process that enables individuals to efficiently and conveniently look after their health. Self-care practices include exercise, eating healthy, getting a good amount of sleep, etc.
Relaxation is a transformative process that decreases the effects of stress on both your mind and body. By embracing relaxation techniques, you can proactively manage the challenges of everyday stress, ultimately enhancing your overall quality of life. Relaxation techniques include yoga, meditation, nature walks, listening to music, journaling, etc.
