Effective date: October 17, 2026
This policy explains what information the Yossha: Learn Japanese Daily app ("Yossha", "we", "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
1. Summary
• You can use Yossha without creating an account.
• Your learning content and progress are stored on your device. If you sign in, your progress is also backed up to your account so you can restore it.
• The free version shows ads. Yossha Pro subscribers see no ads.
• We do not ask for your contacts, photos or precise location. The microphone is optional and is used only after you tap it.
2. Information we collect
a) Account information (optional)
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address and name that the provider shares with us (Apple may provide a private relay email). We use this only to identify your account and restore your progress.
b) App identifiers
When you open the app, we create an anonymous user ID so that purchases, progress sync and crash reports work. This ID does not reveal who you are.
c) Learning progress
Your preferences, review history, saved items and streak are stored on your device. If you have an account, they are also stored in our cloud database (Google Firebase) so they can be restored on another device. We do not upload your search queries.
d) Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to confirm whether you have an active Yossha Pro subscription. We never receive your payment card details.
e) Usage and diagnostics
We collect anonymous usage events (for example, which screens are completed or whether a lesson was finished) and crash reports, including device model and OS version, to improve the app and fix bugs.
f) Advertising (free version only)
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob, which may include ads from Meta Audience Network. These providers may collect:
• Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking when iOS asks
• Approximate location derived from your IP address
• Information about ads shown and your interactions with them
• Technical and diagnostic data about the ad SDK
This data is used to show and measure ads, limit how often you see them, and prevent fraud. If you do not allow tracking, ads are still shown but are not personalized using your advertising identifier.
g) Microphone and speech (optional)
Translate and the Try saying step use the microphone only after you tap it. Speech is recognized on your iPhone. The audio is not recorded and is not uploaded to Yossha, Firebase or the ad networks. Translation uses Apple's on-device Translation. Apple may download a Japanese language model onto your device. The sentence is not sent to a Yossha server.
3. How we use information
• To provide the app, sync your progress and restore purchases
• To understand which features help people learn and improve them
• To detect and fix crashes and errors
• To show ads in the free version and measure their performance
• To translate speech you choose to speak or play, on your device
• To comply with legal obligations
4. Your choices
• Tracking: iOS asks whether Yossha may track you. You can change this anytime in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
• Ad consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland): you will be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice anytime in the app under Settings > Ad privacy choices.
• Remove ads: subscribing to Yossha Pro removes all ads.
• Notifications: daily reminders are optional and can be turned off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
• Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings > Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and your synced progress from our servers. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
5. Third-party services
We share information only with service providers that help us run the app, under their own privacy policies:
• Google Firebase (authentication, cloud sync, analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration): https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
• Google AdMob (advertising): https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
• Meta Audience Network (advertising via AdMob): https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy
• RevenueCat (subscription management): https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
• Apple (sign-in, payments): https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
6. Data retention
Account and synced progress are kept until you delete your account. Analytics and crash data are kept for the retention periods set in Firebase and are then deleted. Advertising partners retain data according to their own policies.
7. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. They use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, where required.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA/UK or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. We do not sell personal information. To use these rights, delete your account in the app or contact us at the email below.
9. Children
Yossha is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and access rules that let only you read and write your synced progress. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will update the effective date above, and significant changes will be announced in the app or in the App Store release notes.
