Yossha is a Japanese-learning app focused on the Japanese you actually hear and use. It combines vocabulary review, practical Daily Sentences, Reading practice, Japanese audio, furigana, widgets, and personalized learning in a focused daily experience.
Yossha is designed around a local-first learning experience. Core learning data and progress are stored on your device, so much of the learning experience can continue without an internet connection. Some account, purchase, or online service functionality may require a connection when used.
Yossha shows you a Japanese learning item first so you can try to remember it yourself. You can reveal additional help such as the reading, romaji when enabled, meaning, and examples. When reviewing learning items, rate how well you remembered them using the available review choices. Your rating helps Yossha determine when you should review the item again.
No. Yossha allows you to rate your recall without forcing you to reveal every hint first. If you need help, you can reveal the reading or meaning before rating.
Daily Sentence gives you a practical Japanese sentence to explore as part of your daily learning. You can reveal its meaning, listen to Japanese audio, inspect useful vocabulary, and save relevant words. Some sentences also include usage or imitation guidance where context matters.
Reading gives you short Japanese passages designed for learners. Depending on the passage and your settings, Reading may include furigana, optional romaji, translation help, vocabulary support, usage notes, and comprehension questions. The goal is to help you read real Japanese without overwhelming the page with information.
Yes. Yossha can show romaji as additional reading support depending on your preferences and learning setup. Learners who are comfortable with kana can reduce their reliance on romaji over time.
Yossha currently uses Japanese speech provided by iOS. Tap the audio button on supported learning content to hear the Japanese text spoken aloud. The exact system voice can vary depending on your iPhone, iOS version, and installed Japanese voices.
Yossha currently relies on Japanese speech voices provided by iOS. Apple may provide different Japanese voices depending on the device, iOS version, language settings, and downloaded system voices. Because of this, tone and voice character may vary slightly between devices.
Tap the bookmark or save control when it appears next to a supported vocabulary item. Saved vocabulary can be reviewed later from Saved Words.
Search lets you find Japanese learning items available in Yossha. Results are shown Japanese-first, with useful reading and meaning information where appropriate.
Yossha includes native iOS widgets that can show Japanese learning content directly on your Home Screen or Lock Screen. Depending on the selected widget, you may see content such as a word, an example, or a Daily Sentence. Widget content and preferences are shared securely between the Yossha app and its widget extension on your device.
iOS requires users to add widgets themselves. Apps are not allowed to silently place widgets on your Home Screen or Lock Screen. Yossha provides instructions and previews to help you choose the widget you want.
On your iPhone: touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, enter Home Screen editing mode, tap Add Widget, search for Yossha, choose the widget you want, and add it to your Home Screen. The exact wording may vary slightly depending on your iOS version.
On supported iPhones: touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose Lock Screen, tap the widget area, find Yossha, and add a supported Yossha widget.
You can enable Daily Sentence notifications when Yossha asks for notification permission.
You can also review notification permission later in:
Settings > Notifications > Yossha
Yossha notification preferences can also be adjusted inside the app.
Check the following:
Yossha notifications are allowed in iOS Settings
notifications are enabled inside Yossha
your notification time is set correctly
Focus modes or system notification settings are not suppressing alerts
iOS controls final notification delivery and presentation.
If you previously purchased Yossha Pro using the same Apple Account, use Restore Purchases from the subscription/account area in Yossha.
A network connection may be required to verify the purchase.
Subscriptions purchased through Apple are managed through your Apple Account.
On iPhone: open Settings, tap your Apple Account name, tap Subscriptions, select Yossha, then choose the available cancellation option.
Deleting the Yossha app does not automatically cancel an active Apple subscription.
App Store purchases are processed by Apple.
Refund eligibility and refund processing are generally handled by Apple rather than directly by Yossha.
Automatic account sync and cloud backup are not currently part of the main Yossha learning experience.
Your learning progress is primarily stored locally on your device.
