I am Yolande Hylton, a Lecturer in the Behavioural Science Unit of the Mona School of Business and Management at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, where I teach across the full spectrum of Human Resource Management.
I have been teaching for approximately 14 years, first as an Adjunct Lecturer and over the last two years as a full-time Lecturer at the undergraduate and graduate levels. However, my journey into academia didn't start in the classroom, but in the financial sector within corporate Jamaica, where I spent almost 15 years building a career that took me from the role of Teller to Senior Manager. That experience gave me an insider's understanding of how organisations work and what HR professionals truly need to succeed. I still keep closely connected to what is happening in organisations in my capacity as an HR Consultant. This has helped to shape my perspectives and approach to teaching and learning.
In 2022, I was honoured to receive the UWI Distinguished Teaching Award, a recognition that continues to inspire my commitment to meaningful, student-centred teaching.
This portfolio provides insight into how I teach, my methodologies and what it looks like in practice.
