Maya Hanspal
CHESS PhD Scholar (University of Cambridge), Endeavour Research Fellowship Recipient.
Maya started her PhD at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Professor Christopher Dobson and Dr Janet Kumita, in 2012. She is interested in the role of TDP-43 aggregation and spreading in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and is using cell culture and biochemical techniques to address this. In 2013 she was awarded an Endeavour Research Fellowship by the Australian government, allowing her to spend six months at the Illawara Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI), based at the University of Wollongong. Here, she has been working with members of the Yerbury group and Professor Mark Wilson to expand her repertoire of cell culture techniques and further probe this research question.
