Learning Intention: To develop a plan for an imaginative writing piece considering perspective and text structure.
Lesson Overview
Welcome to lesson 1! In this lesson, you will immerse yourself into the perspective of an astronaut by watching a space adventure to the moon in virtual reality. While watching, you may want to consider the aspects of setting and character as you will then plan an imaginative writing piece based upon the video you watched .
In the planning stage of writing, you will show me you have considered all elements of the appropriate text structure by mapping out your imaginative writing plan using an Ozobot.
Task Instructions
Activity 1: Virtual Reality (15 minutes)
Find a partner and grab one Google Cardboard, a worksheet and a cellular device to share from the front of the classroom.
Elect who in your pair will first wear the headset and who will be the scribe. You will both get a turn at each role.
Set up Google Cardboard. Information on setting up is found below.
Whilst viewing the video, you will explain to your scribe what you are viewing. You must remember to use your dazzling, detailed description and valuable vocabulary.
Whilst being the scribe, you will write on the worksheet the magnificent description your partner is explaining. This will help with another activity later on in the module so be very explicit and thorough.
The teacher will instruct when students will switch roles. This will happen halfway through the video.
Be sure to share what you wrote down with your pair afterwards so you both have it on your worksheets.

Activity 2: Planning imaginative writing (35 minutes)
For this activity, you will use the video you just watched to step into the perspective of an astronaut. You will have to apply what you know about text structure which you have been learning about to successfully plan a story about an astronaut's adventure to the moon.
Using the worksheet provided to you, you will brainstorm and plan a story about an astronaut's adventure to the moon. You will have 10 minutes to complete the worksheet.
Remember to explore your creativity by coming up with a unique plotline whilst also considering the viewpoint of an astronaut and the setting.
You will then grab a white, A3 piece of paper, Ozobot markers (black, red, green and blue) and an Ozobot code sheet from out the front of the classroom.
You will have 25 minutes to create a path for an Ozobot to follow that showcases the plan for your imaginative writing. You will use the imaginative writing plot structure for the path and will code suitable features onto the Ozobot to explain what is happening in your story at each part of the appropriate text structure.
Ensure you use all parts of the text structure in the appropriate order and label these on your piece of carboard. Add images to the piece of paper to enhance storytelling. We will present the final products at the start of the next lesson.
Base your Ozobot path off this imaginative structure we have been learning about:

Creating a path for an Ozobot:
The Ozobot will follow the lines and execute commands based on the colour patterns detected.
Draw a path using a lead pencil.
Look at the codes and using the specific colours of markers, draw the codes on the line where you want them. Each code represents a specific command or action, The Ozobot will recognise the different colours and respond accordingly.
Go over the rest of the line that isn't coded in black marker.
