Practical Questions

1. WHO CAN TAKE PART?

All secondary students on the island of Ireland are invited to take part. Cross-Curricular links are encouraged.


2. DO YOU NEED TO APPLY THROUGH YOUR SCHOOL?

No, applications from individuals or groups outside of schools are also welcome. However an adult must be available to accompany you to the YCA Symposium.


3. HOW TO APPLY

Simply complete the online application form. Print the parent consent form, get it signed and upload it to the website under the Parental Consent section. Application form and parent consent form are on the Apply page.


4. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

There is no application fee for the YCA Symposium this year! Transportation costs are covered by the applicant.


5. WHERE AND WHEN WILL THE FESTIVAL BE HELD?

The Awards Symposium will take place on 10th March 2020. The Symposium will be at University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4.

TIPS

YOUR POSTER DISPLAYS SHOULD BE

  • No more than A1 in size.
  • A poster, mindmap, storyboard, art work, or any other visual media.
  • Should consist of a group no larger than 3 people.
  • Easy to understand with clear links to your topic and the SDGs.
  • Suitable to hang up on the wall – don’t write on both sides!
  • Neat - use a clear font that can be read from a distance (where applicable), and have no spelling or grammatical mistakes.
  • Well-researched and include your sources e.g. people who contributed to your thinking, books, articles or websites you consulted etc.

YOUR PERFORMANCES SHOULD BE

  • No longer than 5 minutes
  • Should be pre- recorded and submitted by the 20th February 2020.
  • Should consist of a group no larger than 5 people
  • A rap, song, dramtic piece, speech, role -play, interview
  • Using Costumes where possible!
  • Well-researched and scripts should be edited and practiced before-hand

YOUR PRESENTATION SHOULD BE

  • No longer than 3 minutes.
  • A powerpoint, report, poster or storyboard
  • Easy to understand with clear links to your topic.
  • Should consist of a group no larger than 5 people
  • Use suitable visual colours and formating.
  • A presentation on a historical figure (FactFile), an important event or a topic of interest from the ancient world.
  • Well-researched and include your sources e.g. people who contributed to your thinking, books, articles or websites you consulted etc.
