The Young Classicist's Award is a new and exciting competition for secondary students all across Ireland. The Ancient World has always been an inspiration for artistic creativity, academic thought, and dramatic or musical performances. Our competition is an opportunity for any and all students with an interest in Classical Mythology and Literature, Ancient Languages, Archaeological processes and Ancient History to explore their chosen topic through one of these mediums. In 2019, the Young Classicist's Awards held it's inaugural Symposium with schools from Kildare and Dublin participating. The photos above show some of the creative ideas the students developed.

THE Young Classicist's Awards represents an exploration of the Ancient World - their mythology and literature, architecture, art and philosophy, social and political history - which is relevant to the modern, developing world. For this reason, we encourage our entrants to connect their projects to the Sustainable Development Goals - goals which are meant to better the world for our entrants' futures. In recognition of the students who are most successful in making this connection, we have a special award.

We believe that new technology allows our entrants to explore, research, and present their knowledge and understanding in innovative and exciting ways. We believe that old ideas can be reinvented through new tools for research. We urge our entrants to experiment with familiar and unfamiliar technologies in their research and presentation. We hope that these young Classicists and Ancient Historians will show that they can think outside the box, showing themselves to be technological innovators as well as Classicists.

Lastly, we at the Young Classicist's Awards believe that community is an important aspect to the life of our students. Building trust and communication between different school communities allows our students to become better socialised in a world which is so often becoming more and more disconnected. On March 10th 2020, our Young Classicist's Awards Symposium is the perfect opportunity for our students not only to see and discuss their own projects and others, but to take part in fun and educational activities. Throughout the day we will have visits to the UCD Classics Museum, tours of UCD campus, presentations and performances by students, and more. We hope that all students with an interest in Classics and Ancient History will attend the day, even if they have not submitted a project of their own.
