Fence Panels

Yarn bombing a fence is done by sewing a flat piece or by weaving strips through panels.

There are 72 fence panels to claim! There are three different size fence panels on the Overlook:

  • 77 inches wide x 29 inches tall (generally 33 full squares by 12 full squares with fractional parts)

  • 75 inches wide x 29 inches tall (generally 31 full squares by 12 full squares with fractional parts)

  • 62 inches wide by 29 inches tall (generally 24 full squares by 12 full squares with fractional parts)

The grid squares are 2.5 inches square including the wire, and they have 2 inches square of interior space. The panels do not have a set number of squares, but have fractional parts of squares on each edge.

If your design requires a specific size of fence panel, please reach out so we can arrange for installation on a panel that works for you.

Ideas for fence panels:

  • Make any shape you like and then sew it to the fence, leaving negative space open around the piece.

  • Crochet, knit, or weave a piece the full size of the panel and sew on in one piece.

  • Crochet, knit, or weave strips that are 1.75 inches wide and the length or width of the fence panels; you can weave the strips through the panel and attach for a striped or plaid look.

Bike Racks

There are 8 bike racks on the Overlook.

With a bike rack, you make a sleeve at home, then wrap the rack and sew up the seam. Each rack is 7.5 in. around, so make a piece that is about 6.5 in. wide so it stretches to fit. You attach any decorations later, but keep your design to the body of the bike rack so that it is still usable for the public. Your piece should be 9-10 feet long.
