Yarningdale is coordinated by two knitters with the goal of bringing communities together through craft. We're excited to partner with the Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail and to learn from the questions, ideas, and creativity of Yarningdale participants. Please contact us with questions, ideas, suggestions, and feedback!
We encourage you to post about your experiences using the hashtag #yarningdale.
If you have any questions about the project, please email us at yarnbombchicago@gmail.com. We both have day jobs and will respond as soon as we can!
Mary Morgan Ryan and Valerie Sherman
Purly Birds
Join the Purly Birds! Founded by mostlybadfly, we are a local group for people who like to wake up early on the weekend, get a coffee and knit together. Daniel started this group as a way to meet more locals who are looking for a knitting meetup on the weekends. We are meeting virtually now, but we hope to return to meeting in person. Before the pandemic, we met in coffee shops or bakeries on the Logan Square and surrounding neighborhood but also in other locations.
We meet from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. on Saturdays.
The group is open to all people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender, and body size. all are welcome! <3.
You can find us on Ravelry.com, though since the pandemic we are more active on Slack.
South Loop Yarn Bomber
Valerie Sherman has spent the last few years creating next-level yarn street art installations where she lives in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago. She learned how to crochet from her mother, but she learned how to be weird from her father.
Valerie often uses her skills to raise funds for charity or bring attention to causes, including revitalization of the Bronzeville neighborhood, voting rights, the South Side Giving Circle of the Chicago Foundation for Women, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Valerie's work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, the Columbia Chronicle, Simply Crochet, and Fiber Art Now, as well as major Chicago TV news.
You can follow her adventures in yarn on Instagram @valerieplz.
Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail
The Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail Park Advisory Council is sponsoring this project. Our mission is to be the community stewards of the Bloomingdale Trail, the heart of the 606, by having an independent voice while working closely with all stakeholders, to ensure that the trail is a vibrant, inclusive part of the Bloomingdale corridor.
