Hi! My name is Yaoying Fu. I am currently a Math Fellow at University of California, Riverside, working with Jose Gonzalez and Patricio Gallardo. I obtained my PhD at Boston College in 2026, where I was fortunate to be advised by Qile Chen and Kathryn Lindsey. I obtained my BSc in math from The University of Hong Kong.

I am interested in the intersection of mathematical foundation of machine learning and algebraic geometry. In particular, I am thinking about problems like exact function realization, architectural expressivity and structural constraints for ReLU neural networks using toric geometry.
