Since there are only two living individuals of the species and both are male, this species is reproductively extinct. The species of Yangtze Giant Softshell turtle is taxonomically unique meaning, that once it becomes extinct, the tree of life shrinks. The tree of life is a collection of all the categories of classification from family to species and all the organisms are separated into these categories. The tree of life has been shrinking at a rate faster than normal and once a species is lost it is almost impossible to get it back.
