Species of softshell turtles are also used for medicinal purposes because of the cartilage in their shells that are said to cure certain ailments

There is a lack of scientific research in general because little research has been done on wild individuals

Research in the present is limited because there are only 2 known individuals left alive

The species is not well-documented in terms of population numbers from past to the present
