We rang in the winter holiday season with a quiz night held on Zoom. It covered all the big trends of the year, as well as many other categories!
Avoiding the 3Cs, we had our Halloween party outside this year! People from the JET and Japanese community came together to play games, enjoy roasted sweet potatoes, and light up some fireworks together next to the Mamigasaki river.
We organized a cultural experience of dying fabric with safflowers (benibana) in Tendo. Safflowers are one of the main symbols of Yamagata. This dyeing experience can only be done in Yamagata Prefecture!
Instead of our usual going away party, we opted for a non-contact approach of goodie bags. These were filled by your AJET team with Yamagata-sourced goodies from snacks and trinkets to postcards and stickers.
We invited the Yamagata JET and local community to come together to make masks for the National AJET 2020 Sew-a-Thon project with the goal of sewing and donating masks to support Japanese communities during COVID-19.
We are so proud of our Yamagata JET community for contributing a grand total of 123 masks to the project!
You can read more about it in the National AJET report here.
