ABOUT EDILSON LIMA

Edilson Lima is a Brazilian dancer, professional choreographer, dance teacher, performer and presenter.

Edilson started dancing when he was 12 years old, taking jazz and classical ballet classes. At the age of 15 he was already choreographing groups to perform at school and also performed dances dubbing Trio Los Angeles, Michael Jackson, and Blitz, among others.

He took classical ballet at the Ivanildo Silva Conservatory in Cubatão with teacher Lucia Moledo where, at the age of 18, he choreographed her dancers in the Jazz style, participating in festivals such as Sesc Móbil de Dança, Enredanca, and Ginastrada, receiving awards for works of his own creation.

Edilson also had his training at the Gremius Dance Center with professor and great master Celia Duarte. There, he was able to specialize in jazz, ballet and modern dance.

Edilson also took jazz classes with teachers Edson Santos and Roseli Rodrigues, from the group Raça Cia de Dança de SP and classical ballet at Balé Stagium, also in São Paulo.

Edilson left the coast and went on to perform in a dance contest on the TV channel SBT at the Show dos Calouros, hosted by Silvio Santos, where he won for 5 weeks and was awarded the trophy for jazz. From there a new journey began, as Edilson began to travel with the actress Sônia Lima, dancing in shows around Brazil, and performing in nightclubs. Eventually he was invited to be part of the official SBT Dance Corps where he danced in musical shows including Hebe Camargo's, Domingo Legal, and Silvio Santos' Hot Hot Hot show. During this period in São Paulo Edilson danced in other TV shows including Sula Miranda's and Sergio Malandro's.

Edilson made a special appearance in the Beto Carreiro show during this period in SP.

Edilson worked in musical shows such as Metropolis, Dancing Stars, As Bandidas, Madonna live, and also Sassarico da Nega, where he danced and acted with the actor Jorge Lafond.

Edilson was part of the cast of the Musical Splish Splash at the Palladium with dancers and actors. This musical was directed by Wolf Maya, a Globo TV director. He also danced in the 1994 Child Hope program, also at Globo.

In 1995 he traveled with a show group where they performed in Geneva in Switzerland, Cannes and Nice in France and Hamburg in Germany. Returning to Brazil, he went to SBT to dance and act in the show Concurso de Parodias and Alô Cristina.

He attended the Ibero-American University where he studied Letters to become an English Translator and Interpreter.

Edilson arrived in the United States in 1999, working with entertainment, as translator, interpreter, and tourism.

In the US Edilson released a dance-as-exercise video in 2004 which received a Telly Award for Excellence and Sales.

He has participated in numerous cultural events in the city of Chicago, where he resides, in museums, schools, and universities, as well as in many festivals.

Currently, Edilson is director and choreographer of his own dance group -- Samba 1 Brazilian Dance Group -- which makes presentations in several cities in the USA.

Edilson is host and presenter of the variety show at the Alhambra Palace in Chicago.

He works for Columbia College as a dance teacher on a program that brings arts to over 250 Chicago schools.
