Accidents & First Aid:
LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD carry first aid kits on each vehicle and will provide a kit where operatives are working. All accidents, incidents and near misses will be reported to the company Director, by phoning as instructed during induction. In the event of a major incident inform telephone 999 for an ambulance and inform company Director. A list of trained first aid personnel and location of first aid facilities will be provided by the client during induction, where appropriate.Additional Arrangements to limit exposure to Covid-19 (coronavirus):

Asbestos:
All LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD operatives have been trained or have been instructed in Asbestos Awareness and are able to recognise any asbestos containing materials. If materials at the premises are suspected of containing asbestos, work must stop immediately and the office informed. All personnel will then be excluded from the area a decision will then be taken as to whether work can proceed without disturbing the materials or if the materials can be safely removed, depending on the condition, quantity and type of materials and durations involved given the current regulations (2012), ie if it can be ascertained that(a) the exposure to asbestos of employees is sporadic and of low intensity; and
(b )it is clear from the risk assessment that the exposure to asbestos of any employee will not exceed the control limit; and
(c) the work involves—
(i) short, non-continuous maintenance activities in which only non-friable materials are handled, or
(ii) removal without deterioration of non-degraded materials in which the asbestos fibres are firmly linked in a matrix, or
(iii) encapsulation or sealing of asbestos-containing materials which are in good condition, or
(iv) air monitoring and control, and the collection and analysis of samples to ascertain whether a specific material contains asbestos.
Confined Spaces:
Any confined spaces will not be entered until a site specific risk assessment has been completed and appropriate arrangements made for operative safety.COSHH:
COSHH assessments for all substances to be used by LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD operatives have been completed and will be made available to operatives to ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.Delivery Times:
Delivery of any plant and materials will be arranged in advance with the client. Deliveries will normally be between 0830 and 1630 to allow adequate time for off loading and appropriate storage on site, as required.Disposal of Used materials and Debris:
Any waste generated by LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD works activities will be disposed of in the cheapest way legally possible. There should be appropriate waste containers provided at the work location.Emergency & Evacuation Procedures:
Operatives will make themselves aware of any emergency and evacuation procedures in place at the premises for the duration of works when first arriving. Operatives will be expected to respond appropriately during any planned fire drill or other emergency. Any changes to emergency arrangements will be communicated to all operatives during daily briefings before the start of work.Fire Safety:
Any site specific requirements for fire safety will be communicated to LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD operatives on arrival at the premises. Operatives must familiarise themselves with the location of fire fighting equipment and escape routes. Smoking is not permitted inside any building. Operatives who do smoke or use electronic cigarettes must only do so outside the premises. Any cigarette ends must be carefully disposed of without creating a fire risk.Hand Tools & Equipment:
Hand tools will include screwdrivers, pliers, side cutters, hammers, laser levels, Knives, bandsaw/hacksaw, grindette, multitools, battery powered and mains powered drills and circular saws, reciprocating saws and chasing machines. All electrical equipment will be visually inspected before use and tested for electrical safety on a periodic basis.Lathes & Milling Machine
Storage:
Operatives are responsible for the safe use and storage of all tools and equipment and must pay particular attention to trip hazards from untidy workplaces, trailing leads and cables. any other tools or equipment required for the work will be supplied asLadders/Steps/Retractable Tower/Genie Lift:
Folding access equipments are sometimes carried on vehicles and will be used for short duration activities, following the principles of ladder safety. Operatives must ensure the correct positioning of the equipment on level ground, fully extended with cross braces locked into position. Checks on the condition of the equipment will be carried out each day before use. Any Opdefs will result in the eqipment being opdeffed and withdrawn from use and appropriately tagged. Extension ladders and tower are used for short-duration works with the same safe working principles applied.Lighting:
Any specific task lighting will be provided by LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD inspected and tested prior to commencement of works. Head torches will be used for most tasks in areas of poor lighting.Location & Access:
All operatives are required to park responsibly in any designated parking areas for the duration of works and use the designated entrance to access the work area. any changes to access arrangements will be communicated to operatives as appropriate.Materials Handling, Storage and Safety Information:
There are no specific requirements for materials handling. All operatives have been instructed in the principles of safe lifting and the use of kinetic techniques and these must be applied at all times. each load must be carefully assessed to ensure it is within the capability of the individual. Team lifting to be utilised when required for larger and heavier items. the majority of materials will be transported in LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD own vehicles. All materials are to be stored in a designated secure area provided by the client or removed from the premises at the end of each day.Operatives Competence:
All operatives are experienced and qualified electricians who have previously worked on similar premises. Any apprentices will be supervised according to separate RAMS and not expected to participate in any activities they have not been trained to complete. Specific operatives hold other certification such as PASMA and IPAF if required. All operatives have been instructed in Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling and Working at Height.Permit to Work:
Where a permit to work system is required for the safety of all LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD personnel working on the project, it will be controlled by the Senior Electrician on site. The permit will detail the checks and actions required at specific stages of the work and will include isolation of systems and the fitting of locking devices to controls and equipment. It is not permitted to deviate from the content of the permit. the permit will be valid for a specific time period and will require an authorised signature for any time extension or modifications to the scope of work.Personal Protective Equipment

It is essential that members of the public are excluded from the work area for their own protection and for the safety of LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD. Cones, barriers, tape and signs will be used, where appriopriate, to exclude any person from the work area.Risk Assessment:
Risk assessments covering work activities for specific projects shall have been completed, or reviewed and updated, and will form part of operatives' induction. Copies of assessments are attached to this method statement and will be reviewed during the project and if necessary updated and communicated to all operatives.Scaffold:
Where fixed scaffold has been provided at a work location, access onto the scaffold must be by leaning ladders suitably tied or secured to prevent movement. Where mobile scaffold towers are required they will only be erected, altered and dismantled by suitably PASMA-trained operatives. Daily checks on towers will be carried out before use by trained operatives. Particular attention must be paid to overhead cables or power lines when working on scaffold or from mobile towers.Site Cleanliness & Housekeeping:
All LA SPARKS AT WIRE & TEST CO LTD operatives are required to ensure work areas are kept clear of waste materials, debris and trip hazards by the regular removal of waste and good cable management. All tools and equipment will be stored in a designated, secure location at the end of each day or removed from the premises. Any workplace hazards identified will be reported to the office and the Client for action.Site Induction: TBA
