Annual midnight swearing-in of SS troops at Feldherrnhalle, Munich, 1938.
What was the SS Battalion? The SS Battalion, or Schutz-Staffel, was Hitler's guard. Hitler founded the SS Battalion in April 1925. The SS Battalion's top commander was Heinrich Himmler. After Heinrich Himmler commanded the SS, the population went from 300 to more than 250,000. The name of Schutz-Staffel translates to "Protection Squadron" in English. The SS started with a small unit in the Elite Guard known as the Saal-Schutz, which translates to "Hall Protection".
The SS was based on the government. Unlike the SA, the SS dealt with issues politically or within the government, while the SA dealt with issues locally. The SS was the government's paramilitary organization, being the country's prime military. The SS rarely finished the SA's responsibilities, especially after Kristallnacht, when Jewish individuals and other groups were killed and shipped to concentration camps.
Before the Nazi rise in power, the SS was to protect Hitler and many other high-ranking Nazi leaders, while providing security in meetings, and to many subscribers to the Nazi propaganda newspaper, who were considered and treated like "supporters".
When Hitler ordered the Blood Purge on the SA, the SS Battalion helped the most with executing most of the SA's higher-ups. After the Blood Purge, the SS carried the SA's responsibilities. Before the Blood Purge, the SS was the military of Germany. They, like the SA beforehand, were responsible for identification of ethnicity when it came to their population.
The SA wanted to take control of most of, if not all of the divisions of the country. The SS didn't want to be replaced. Hitler had to keep the side of the German Army, or SS. If he didn't then his world of power in Germany would crumble, destroying his leadership and his views of a "better" Germany. This led to the execution of the SA. Then the SS carried the responsibilities of the SA. This resulted in the German Army's full allegiance to Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party, finalizing his every command.
The divisions in the SS Battalion are the Reich, Totenkopf, Polizei, and Wiking Divisions and Kampfgruppe Nord, and the Leibstandarte, 1st SS Infantry, 2nd SS Infantry, and SS Cavalry Brigades, most of which were involved in the military. The SS was also responsible for concieving and implementing plans for the restructuring of Eastern Europe's ethnic composition.
The Waffen SS was the SS Battalion's main arm. They were the ones that mostly went and fought battles. The Waffen SS was one of the top SS Battalion divisions. The Waffen SS was the elite part of the SS Battalion. The Waffen SS had three divisions in it. The Leibstandarte, the Totenkopfverbände, and Hitler's personal guard unit. On May 8, 1945. The SS Battalion and the Nazi Party were defeated by the Allies, when the Soviet Red Army, after battling for three years, had taken Berlin.
Heinrich Himmler was born on October 7, 1900, in Munich Germany. Heinrich Himmler was the Reichsführer of the Nazi Party and was in charge of the SS Battalion. Heinrich Himmler got elected Reichsführer of the Nazi Party in 1929 and lasted until April 1945.
In April 1934 Heinrich Himmler was elected assistant chief of the Gestapo. The Gestapo was the secret police of the Nazi Party, similar to the Russian KGB. In the last couple of months of the war. Himmler put up with an illness called psychosomatic. Psychosomatic illness is that stress will help and make it worse.
In April 1945. Himmler tried to negotiate surrender to the Western Allies and work with them to help them defeat the Soviet Union behind Hitler's back. Hitler did NOT like that his long-time Reichsführer (Himmler) tried to do something like that without him knowing. Hitler fired Himmler from all offices and ordered an arrest. Himmler then tried to escape. But he was captured by the Western Allies. On May 23, 1945. Himmler killed himself by taking poison, shortly after Hitler and his wife, Eva Braun, commited suicide. Eva by poison and Hitler by gunshot to the head.
