Chapter 87: Vivianne – Secret Garden

Chapter 87: Vivianne – Secret Garden

Not one window looket out onto the small garden. A tiny space surrounded by eight walls, its ground never touched by sun. Dark grass with thin, sharp blades, small flowers with slightly purple petals, diaphanous like fairy wings. The ivy climbing the walls, much lighter than the grass covering the ground, had star shaped leaves and covered all the walls except for one. The largest wall was a marble sculpture representing a wolf sitting under the shadow of a magnificent. Golden-leaved tree. Time had removed the painting, but the marble leaves, white though they were, reflected in gold. The bas-relief shadow of the tree was as carefully sculpted as the tree itself. The wolf sat between the shadow and the gold, grey, powerful, intense, vast. Looking at Vivianne.

Vivianne felt a chill, her hair seemed to pull her away from the marble. The shadow leaves leaked onto the garden, the grass became darker. They gre wolf watching.

A gust of wind fell into the garden, was caged between the walls, kicked, and twisted like a bee in a box, and finally escaped back to the sky. The gold, marble leaves rustled ever so slightly.

It’s only my imagination.

A golden spark floated in the silence of green and shadow; a grain of sun was lost between ivy and grass. A golden leaf landed on Vivianne’s shoulder.

She swept it with her hand and ran away from the garden under the gaze of the marble wolf.
