Chapter 128: A Dragon’s Diary
I rested in the nothing. Made myself comfortable in the cold silence above the skies, and I fell asleep. To think that I am indebt with a human being. That he knew himselfan expetiment, and still he came for me. To think that I don’t mind being in debt with him, that all I worry about is whether he will survive the wounds inflicted on him when he came to rescue me. He lays in his tent for three days now. Two days ago I landed on the hill beside the road.
There have been shouts of warning, of despair, hands sought weaons. Form Pierre’s tent a young human with fair hair came out. I could see her fear and I could feel the weight all the other humans, standing behind her, put on her shoulders. She stood between them and me. She was a leader.
The female sat by a fire and began to eat. Others joined her, one of them had very white skin and red hair. On his skin I recognized the lick of my own fire. He tried to eat, but he trembled too much.
The other human was SO09’s half brother. Pierre’s half brother. He did not look at me. He took food but he didn’t eat it. I imagined he thought my crimes too hideous to be forgiven. Many humans won’t be able to see the difference between me and the War.
Pierre finally emerged from his tent, walking with the help of the blond female and his half brother. The half burnt human spent most of his time hiding from me. I went to Pierre. I stepped between the tents, careful not to disturb anything.
Humans scattered away, but they formed a circle around Pierre and watched. He thanked the other two humans, let go of their arms, and walked with me. I could see he was in pain. He reached out to me but quickly pulled his hand away. So many times had I told you how I hated the touch of human skin.
I brought my head down and touched his shoulder. He was surprised but immediatly smiled the biggest smile I had ever seen on his face, opened his arms and threw himself against my nose. My first hug.
‘Thank you,’ said the dragon. His voice was like leaves in the wind.
