Editing A Draft

I tell writers that "editing" as they conceive it is a limited option. What they envision involves "cleaning up" a draft but rarely gets to deeper matters such as digressions or lack or flow between ideas. The simplistic "proofing" my novice writers imagine is needed, but it can be done late in the game, as long as a writer is not too tired.

For many (but not all) writers, reading aloud can help at that point. For some who speak English as a foreign language, however, reading aloud can make matters worse.

This section of Writer's Web will present many different strategies for editing drafts during composition and later on. Have a look at the left-hand menu for several topics and options.
