A Capella (a challenge response to using a musical term)
If one voice is raised in an ruined cathedral,
can it truly be said to have sung?
One note flies upward to the rafters,
stirring motes of dust in a bar of sunlight.
The second races through the broken pews,
a third is cut on the shards of stained glass.
The notes twine together,
a ghost choir with no backing.
And each fades into nothing.
Unheard.
The invisible singer waits in vain for acknowledgment.
Then, silence, and the world goes on.
