Please God, let me win the lottery.
It's just a little ask,
a tiny request.
Just make those balls float up,
one after another,
like little life preservers.
Let it be 06-14-43-57-67
Powerball 11
That's a nice sequence,
don't you think?
Or 08-40-52-56-61
With that pretty little 13,
just round it off.
(And wouldn't it be funny,
if I recorded those in a poem,
and posted it before the drawing,
and then everyone could see
that I guessed it?)
Please God, let me win the lottery.

It's not that hard,
if you can bring the world into being.
I could use it.
I'm sure no one else needs
One hundred and thirty million dollars
as much as I do.
Though after taxes,
and taking it in a lump sum,
it's only about thirty-three million.
I could live on that.
I could relocate.
I would carefully put at least half in a fund,
to get the dividends to live on.
Google tells me that would be $300K a year.
I could live on that.
And take care of people
who need taking care of,
and I'm sure no one else has those.
So please God, let me win the lottery.

That sounds nice, doesn't it?
I would give to charity.
I don't know which.
Maybe a library.
Maybe something for wildlife.
Or would it be better to do
those ones with the sad commercials
about kids who just need you
to donate in the next thirty minutes,
to save a life?
But then there's the little dog,
whose bowl has been empty,
or the elephants being shorn of tusks.
Never mind.
I'd give some back.
That's all you need to know.
Absolutely.
So please, if it's not too much trouble, God,
I could really use that lottery win.
And I'm sure I'm the only person praying for it.
