This exciting Economics Masterclass enables year 12 and 13 students to discover what economists do and to answer some of the ‘Why?’ questions that economists ask. The day will comprise of engaging interactive games, innovative teaching pedagogies and the chance for students to develop their networks. It will also provide opportunity for students to think about the future careers available in the industry, including hearing from current Economics students about their future plans and what its like to study Economics at degree level.
The following interactive sessions will be delivered by our experienced Department of Economics academics:
Who are the economists and what do they do?
Why do we need good economists?
Why do economists need to talk to other social scientists?
Can economists help build a better future
The day will close with a social, friendly networking session to offer participants the opportunity to gather first- hand information from professionals, alumni and current students on the life, employability prospects, and career opportunities of economists.
The ‘Economics Masterclass’ will also offer teachers of any schools and colleges attending a networking opportunity and a forum to discuss the development of new initiatives for sixth form students.
The event is funded by the University of Sussex and The Royal Economic Society - one of the oldest and most prestigious economic associations in the world.
