Welcome!
My name is Ryan Goode and I will be your instructor this semester for World Regional Geography. I'm so excited to have you in our geography course!
In our time together we are going to examine some of the most pressing global and local issues from a distinctly geographic perspective. We'll look at a bunch of important contemporary issues including the geography of pandemics, the rise of nationalism, the relationship between climate change and conflict. And that's just the first few weeks!
Cheers,
Ryan
P.S. - Almost all of the pictures on this liquid syllabus (except for the photos I'm actually in) show the international city I did my PhD research in. Can you guess the city? Write your guess in the text of your introductory message board activity and I might even give you a point or two of extra credit if you guess correctly.

Our course is online asynchronous. What does that mean exactly? Well, it means we never meet "live." Instead, you will be interacting with your classmates (and me) several times throughout the week when it's convenient for you! Attendance will be taken based on your participation in weekly activities.
The course is divided up into several three to four day long modules. Most modules will be due on Wednesday and Sunday nights with the new modules starting Thursday and Monday mornings.
Every Monday and Thursday I will make an announcement to let you know that your new module is ready. In my announcement I will also provide you a link to that week's module.
It's always a good idea to quickly review the new module on Monday and Thursday morning so you have an idea of what's in it and can plan your work week accordingly.
If you have any issues going on that week that will make it difficult for you to complete the module please reach out to me and we can discuss alternative plans. It's always a good idea to try and get all your assignments in 24 hours before they are due. Why? Because stuff happens and when you wait until the last minute, you're more likely to have problems meeting a due date.
If you cannot get your work in on time you should still complete it and turn it in late. I always give partial credit for work turned in late.
Your best bet is to simply email me at rgoode@cerritos.edu
I'm pretty good about checking my email a few times a day and you will generally get a pretty quick response from me. I would say 99% of my emails get a response within 24 hours. If I happen to be hiking through Yosemite that day it might take a bit longer to get back to you. Occasionally I do cool things like that...but I'm mostly just waiting around to answer your emails :-)
If you would like to video chat I'm happy to do that over Zoom or Skype. Just email me and we can set up a time that works.
