This course will emphasize the relationships of places and regions in a globalizing world. The course will examine geographic regions of the world through a spatial perspective. We will find that each of these regions posses a unique combination of demographic, economic, religious, political, cultural and environmental properties that are imprinted on the landscape giving each region its own distinctive quality.
Understand fundamental concepts in geography
Be familiar with contemporary global issues
Describe, compare, and contrast the cultural and physical characteristics of the different world regions. Describe and understand major environmental issues at the global and regional scale
Compare and contrast less developed and more developed world regions based on demographic, economic, and cultural characteristics
Identify on a map major physical and cultural features for the selected world regions
Appreciate cultural diversity
Use maps, graphs, and charts for comparison and analysis
Develop and demonstrate learning, writing, and critical thinking
No required text! All readings will be posted on our course site
Ideally you have access to a computer or laptop to complete this course. I've designed the course to be compatible with a smartphone. If any issues arise using your smartphone please let me know.
