Information on Psilocybin Mushrooms have grown and expanded over the years. There are many forums on reddit you can go to get tips while tripping to information on how to grow your own. My favorite website to visit for information is YouTube or Wikipedia. Learning the anatomy of the mushroom can help you communicate within the community and give you a better understanding of how they work.
Here are the five parts of the psilocybin mushroom:
Pileus/ Cap- The cap acts as protection for the gills/ reproductive system.
Hymenium/ Gills- Thin ribbon like projections. This part of the mushroom holds the spores and where the reproduction occurs.
Annulus/Veil- The veil acts as another protectant around the gills. This veil eventually breaks as the shroom matures.
Stipe/Stem- Holds the cap of the mushroom. Is part of the shrooms that “stretches” and supports the shrooms.
Volva- Encases the stipe and was once part of the veil. This part of the veil houses the immature fruiting bodies of mushrooms. The veil breaks as the mushroom matures.
There are many clues within the mushroom anatomy the suggests whether the mushroom is safe or not to eat. One huge sign is the gills. If the gills are white or red, the mushroom can be extremely poisonous or even deadly once consumed.
Here are a few links on YouTube containing information on psilocybin mushrooms and their anatomy. As well as other helpful tips on identifying poisonous mushrooms.
