In this study, eight volunteers ( four men, four women; range of age 22-24 years) were recruited for the study. All subjects were in a healthy condition and had little to no experience with psychoactive drugs.
1mg and 5mg capsules and a lactose placebo were given to patients. Each patient received a placebo and four different doses if shrooms. Each does was given 2 weeks apart. The first does being a very low dose (VLD) to a low dose (LD) to a medium dose (MD) to a high dose (HD).
Results:
The first perceived changes by the volunteers were usually 20-40 minutes after taking the shrooms. Peak effects were reported 60-120 minutes after. Effects completely wore off at 6 hours. LD, MD and HD (115, 215 and 315 g/ kg) dose induced changes in mood, sensory perception (including colorful visual illusions, complex scenic hallucinations and synesthesias), as well as alterations in perception of time, space, and self.
All these factors contributes in helping anxiety and depression.
