Interpretive: Relatable Texts and Relevant Media

When we ask students to relate to a story, topic or example, we need to be sure that it is interesting and relevant to our students. Retention can be obtained if students are thinking critically, engaging organically and connecting authentically on meaningful topics. Simply put, the trick to retention is to focus on interesting topics.
Presentational: Projects

Projects can serve as a valuable tool for expanding the topics in a unit and allow for deeper learning. Students can be creative and connect through culturally relevant and real world learning. Assessment can be multi-layered and can cover surface topics to deeper roots.
