HISTORY OF CHILE

Chile is a narrow strip along South America’s Pacific coast, stretching from the Atacama Desert in the north to Patagonia in the south. Its capital, Santiago, lies in a valley surrounded by mountains. Chile is a unitary republic, historically stable compared to its neighbors, and is a leading copper producer.
